What is the Madison the City Mayor’s Youth Council?
The Madison the City Mayor’s Youth Council is a prestigious program that provides a unique opportunity for motivated young individuals to actively participate in local government and contribute to the betterment of our city. Serving as a bridge between youth and local governance, our council aims to amplify the voices of young people and address issues that matter most to them while also learning how local government is run and operates.
Requirements for Membership:
Joining our esteemed Youth Council comes with certain responsibilities and expectations. Here are the requirements:
- Age Eligibility: Applicants must be rising 10th through 12th grade attending a school in the City of Madison.
- Residency: Membership is open to residents of Madison the City or attending a school within our city limits or be homeschooled.
- Commitment to Service: Members should be willing to volunteer their time for council meetings, events, and projects.
- Leadership Potential: We value individuals who demonstrate leadership qualities such as initiative, creativity, and effective communication skills.
- Academic Standing: While academic excellence is not the sole determinant of eligibility, we do encourage applicants to maintain a satisfactory academic standing.
Requirements for Good Standing:
Membership to the Mayor’s Youth Council is more than a resume builder, it is an experience that teaches responsibility. Below are the requirements to maintain good standing:
- Active Participation: Members are expected to actively participate in council meetings, events, and projects. This includes attending scheduled meetings and contributing constructively to discussions and initiatives.
- Commitment to Service: Members should uphold a commitment to community service and engagement. This involves volunteering for council-sponsored events and projects, as well as seeking out additional opportunities to serve the community.
- Adherence to Code of Conduct: Members are required to adhere to a code of conduct that promotes respect and professionalism.
- Maintaining Academic Standing: While academic excellence is not the sole determinant of membership, members are encouraged to maintain a satisfactory academic standing.
- Regular Communication: Members should maintain open and transparent communication with council advisors and fellow members. This includes responding promptly to emails, attending meetings, and actively engaging in discussions and planning sessions.
- Leadership Development: Members are encouraged to actively seek opportunities for leadership development and growth. This may include participating in leadership training workshops, taking on leadership roles within the council, or pursuing leadership opportunities outside of the council.
- Professionalism and Representation: Members serve as ambassadors of the council and should conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the organization and the City of Madison. This includes dressing appropriately for council events, speaking professionally, and representing the council with integrity and pride.
